Description

A flavorful Southern-style chicken dish coated in bold Cajun spices and pan-fried until golden, then simmered in a zesty sauce for a spicy kick.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup hot sauce
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Place chicken in a bowl with buttermilk and let marinate for at least 30 minutes (up to overnight).
  2. In another bowl, combine flour, Cajun seasoning, paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Remove chicken from buttermilk and dredge in seasoned flour mixture until fully coated.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Pan-fry chicken for 5–6 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. In a small saucepan, melt butter and whisk in hot sauce to create a spicy glaze.
  7. Brush or drizzle glaze over cooked chicken.
  8. Garnish with parsley and serve hot with biscuits, cornbread, or rice.

Notes

  • Adjust cayenne pepper for your preferred spice level.
  • For a lighter option, bake chicken at 400°F (200°C) for 25–30 minutes instead of frying.
  • Pairs perfectly with mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, or coleslaw.
